As we enter a new year, I find myself compelled to reflect on the journey through the year 2023. The past 365 days have been quite an experience, each phase contributing to my personal and professional life. It’s time to pause and playback the previous year and note down what worked and what didn’t. This actually helps me to spot out mistakes I have made and learn from them rather than repeat them.

Join me as I revisit the milestones that shaped my 2023. I hope it inspires you!

Graduation of Tech4All Teaching Girls Lifetime Digital Skills Cohort 2

The “Teaching Girls Lifetime Digital Skills” training programme was an initiative of TECH4ALL GAMBIA ORGANISATION with the intention of providing young girls the opportunity to delve into male-dominated fields in technology. It was a 5-month training programme in collaboration with Skills.GM Digital Skills Hub, SMART PROFESSIONAL COLLEGE and the US Embassy, Banjul. I was able to tutor and coach 25 students, in Video Editing and Graphic Design.

Approximately 50% of the girls who participated in the multimedia training have either significantly improved their existing skills to enhance productivity at work or secured a job or internship. Additionally, two girls from the Web Development section are currently undertaking internship at my company.

Academia Portal

In late August, my team and I initiated the development of an online registration system named Academia Portal. The web app is currently undergoing a pilot phase at Nusrat Senior Secondary School Private WASSCE Syndicate studies. The web app was initially deployed on November 6th for the application process for Nusrat’s Private WASSCE study classes.

Academia Portal is an use-friendly online registration web app for study centers and midsize schools. To access the portal, users must acquire a token/pin through purchase. This innovative approach allows study centers and midsize schools to generate revenue by selling tokens instead of traditional printed forms, reducing printing costs. Furthermore, it enables them to maintain a well-organised database of all their students. Additional features are anticipated to be incorporated into the portal in the near future.

My Software Developer intern, Ebrima O. Touray at Faalen Technologies, was the heart of this project. A Science graduate from Nusrat Senior Secondary School in 2021, Ebrima played a pivotal role in its development.
